PASSENGER DESTINATION, CITY PAIR PRICING & DEPARTURE TIME STUDY

For Airport Authorities

OBJECTIVES

- Final Passenger Destination -

  • Identify the final destination airport that commercial airline passengers are travelling to from your air terminal, plus passenger demographics and purpose of travel (e.g., business, personal, medical)

  • Highlight where commercial airline travellers using your air terminal live, creating an understanding of your airport’s catchment area

  • Provide complementary information to general distribution system (GDS) ticket data, creating an opportunity for your airport’s current and prospective commercial airline and tour operator partners to piece together a more concise picture of market opportunities.

- City Pair Airfare Pricing -

  • Understand customer airfare preferences for a specific city pair. We can use this for a new (non-existing) or existing air routes

  • This will result in useful data for existing and new commercial air operators, plus tour operators

  • Provide complementary information to general distribution system (GDS) airfare data, creating an opportunity for your airport’s current and prospective commercial airline and tour operator partners to piece together a more concise picture of market opportunities.

- Departure Times Preferences -

  • Pinpoint desired flight departure times for current air routes among passengers, broken down by purpose of travel

  • Provide useful data to enhance flight schedules and revenue among existing and prospective commercial airlines and tour operators

METHODOLOGY

For each of the three main objective areas, we will use one survey to collect responses from approximately 1,300 departing passengers. Depending on the number of airlines and non-stop destinations, we will need to develop a surveying schedule to help ensure the samples collected are random. Using the data collected, we will produce three reports: Final Passenger Destination, City Pair Airfare Pricing and Departure Time Preferences.

- Final Passenger Destination -

  • Using the raw data collected from the surveys, we will be able to determine the final airport destination among a large sample of air passengers departing from your terminal.

- City Pair Airfare Pricing -

  • Using the Van Westendorp Price Sensitivity Meter market technique, we can identify consumer price preferences for airport city pairs among commercial air passengers. The goal is to identify the ideal price to broaden the market appeal and increase revenue.

- Departure Time Preferences -

  • Using the raw data collected from the surveys, we will be able to determine the final airport destination among a large sample of air passengers departing from your terminal.

APPROACH

- Part One (One Week) -

  • Develop the survey - we work from our templates, but make slight adjustments applicable to individual air terminals

  • Review the study with our assigned contact at your airport authority

- Part Two (Four Weeks) -

  • Your airport authority, usually through one or more contracted individuals or volunteers, collect the data from approximately 1,300 passengers departing from your air terminal over several weeks

- Part Three (One Week) -

  • Return the completed surveys to Altitude Consulting where we will input and analyse the raw data

- Part Four (Two Weeks) -

  • We will prepare three separate reports from the raw data: 1) final passenger destination, 2) city pair airfare pricing, and 3) departure time preferences
